​​​​​​​​​​​​​​The School and Region Reviews (SRR) branch offers professional development to school leaders and other staff about the National School Improvemen​t Tool (NSIT), school reviews and regional reviews.

Participants from Queensland state schools are welcome to register for programs outside of their region. Interested parties from other jurisdictions can arrange training by contacting the SSR.

Understanding and applying the National School Improvement Tool (2-day program)*

For principals, middle leaders, teachers, school leadership teams and corporate and regional staff.

Develop a deep understanding of the school review process and how the NSIT can be used to drive school improvement and inform strategic planning.

*Prerequisite training for principal peer reviewers.

1-day program

For teachers, middle leaders, principals and corporate and regional staff.

Develop an understanding of the school review process and how the NSIT can inform teaching practice, and help you monitor progress and improve learning outcomes.


Understanding and applying the National School Improvement Tool (for school business managers and regional finance teams)

1-day program

Develop an understanding of the school review process and the NSIT with a particular focus on the targeted use of school resources domain.

The program will explore the business managers’ role in supporting a school’s improvement journey.

Conducting a self-assessment

1-day program

For all school staff.

Provides an overview of the NSIT and develops an understanding of the elements needed to conduct a successful self-assessment.

School reviews for system leaders

1-day program

For regional leaders, regional staff and system leaders.

Learn how to support schools before, during and after a school review.


Work shadowing a school review

School and system leaders have the opportunity to join a school review as an observer and to work shadow a review team.

Gain a deeper understanding of the school review process and how the National School Improvement Tool can be used to support school improvement in a wide range of contexts.

Participants are encouraged to attend an 'Understanding and applying the National School Improvement Tool program' before shadowing a review.

Programs for other jurisdictions

In addition to supporting Queensland state schools, the SSR provides programs for schools and educators outside of Queensland and Australia. To date, the SSR has provided professional development in more than 20 different jurisdictions in and outside of Australia.

The SSR uses the National School Improvement Tool (NSIT) to train educators in how to apply the tool to drive their school’s improvement agenda.

Participants from all jurisdictions are welcome to attend SSR programs, or training can be tailored according to the interests and experience of participants.
