Insights reviews target particular focus areas to support improvement across Queensland state schools and the broader education system.

Insights reviews are a component of the Department of Education’s response to the red tape reduction plan 2025–28 to deliver precise and targeted reviews to support school and system improvement.

Insights reviews targeting behaviour are the first step, with additional insights reviews targeting other focus areas, such as pedagogy, to be consulted on in the future.

Insights reviews (behaviour)

The department is committed to strengthening supports and responses to deliver safe, respectful and disciplined learning environments.

Through the Building Better Behaviour initiative, schools are already benefiting from Behaviour Boost resourcing, targeted professional learning, Intensive Support Services and Rapid Support Squads.

To build on this system-wide approach, the department is piloting insights reviews (behaviour) to provide evidence-based insights for schools and the system.

Insights reviews targeting behaviour will use an evidence-based tool developed in partnership with The University of Queensland detailing effective school systems and practices that support engagement and positive behaviour.

Insights reviews (behaviour) will inform and assure actions of Building Better Behaviour, supporting schools to implement evidence-informed systems and practices that encourage and maintain high standards of student behaviour, engagement, learning and wellbeing.

Findings from these reviews will provide schools with next steps in implementing quality behaviour support systems and practices, with a focus on reducing red tape and building the capability of leaders and staff to enact these recommendations.

Insights reviews (behaviour) are not just about individual schools. They will also build a stronger statewide system and collective understanding of effective practices for creating and maintaining safe and well-disciplined learning environments where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

The pilot program will be conducted throughout Term 2 2026 to test and refine review processes. Additional consultation regarding the insights review (behaviour) process will be undertaken with school leaders and external stakeholders throughout 2026.
